Flying RwandAir: Using Kigali as Your Gateway to Gorillas

Published 24 September 2026

The view from an aircraft wing during a flight over Africa

RwandAir is Rwanda’s national airline, based at Kigali International Airport. For gorilla travellers it’s worth knowing about, because Kigali is often the quickest way to reach the gorilla parks, including Uganda’s.

Where RwandAir flies

From its Kigali hub, RwandAir connects to cities across Africa, including Entebbe, Nairobi, Dar es Salaam, Lagos and Accra, and flies further afield to destinations including London Heathrow, Brussels, Paris, Dubai and Doha. Routes and schedules change, so we always check the latest timetable when we plan your trip.

Why fly into Kigali?

  • Volcanoes National Park is about two and a half hours by road from Kigali airport.
  • Bwindi’s southern sectors (Rushaga and Nkuringo) are only about four to five hours from Kigali. That’s often quicker than driving from Entebbe.
  • Kigali itself is clean, safe and easy to explore for a day.

The smart combination: in one city, out another

Many of our guests fly into Kigali and out of Entebbe, or the reverse. You can trek gorillas in southern Bwindi at Uganda’s lower permit price, then continue north through Queen Elizabeth and Kibale without driving back on yourself. The Entebbe–Kigali hop itself is a short flight of about an hour, useful if you’d rather not drive the border.

We handle the tickets
